Rajasthan could have had Gayle in the first over when he hit a length ball from Trent Boult and took an inside edge on his thigh. The ball went forward towards square leg but Yuzendra Chahal failed to capitalize on the opportunity. Prasidh Krishna gave RR hope by cleaning up Wriddhiman Saha (5) with a beautiful length ball that went in and found a gap between bat and pad.
Matthew Wade’s poor scoring in IPL 2022 ended in disappointment when he missed the time trying to bowl. The ball didn’t seem to go to the woodwork and the left-hander ended up being caught briefly in the middle of the pitch on eight minutes. GT ended their power play with 31/2 as the RR players kept their team in the game.
Since the run rate was not an issue, Hardik, skipper Gill and Gujarat batted smartly. They rotate the shot while striking an irregular border in the middle to ensure that pressure never builds.

A couple of well-timed boundaries from Buttler off Mohammad Shami saw RR reach a respectable 71/2 at the halfway mark. However, things went wrong for the batting side from that stage. Devdutt Padikkal could not find any rhythm in his innings. He was dismissed for two runs off 10 balls, cutting Rashid Khan to third man.
RR were in deep trouble at 79/4 when Buttler hit Hardik for a tear and tried to send the ball outside off stump to third man. Hetmyer hit several boundaries in time from the Gujarat skipper. However, after turning 11, he hit a simple catch to return the ball to the fielder.
