107* vs England at Brabourne, Mumbai | Harmanpreet Kaur’s maiden century in ODIs came against England during the 2013 ICC Women’s World Cup hosted by India. Batting first at Brabourne, England captain Charlotte Edwards then hit a hundred to guide her side to a respectable total of 272/8 from 50 overs. India’s chase got off to a poor start with the team at 29/3 in 7.3 overs. But batting at No.4, Harmanpreet scored an unbeaten 107 to give India hope. Unfortunately, India only managed 240/9 in 50 overs and fell short by 32 runs. It is the only time India have lost a match when Harmanpreet has scored a hundred. Young And Talented Guns Of Indian Women’s Cricket
Harmanpreet Kaur has been named the captain and Smriti Mandhana the vice-captain of the Indian women’s team that will play at the 2022 Commonwealth Games starting July 29 in Birmingham. Women’s T20 cricket makes its CWG debut this year after a men’s ODI tournament was played at the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games.
India are in Group A with Australia, Barbados and Pakistan. Sri Lanka, England, New Zealand and South Africa are placed in Group B. Their campaign begins on July 29 with a match against Australia. The top two teams from each pool advance to the semi-finals.
India recently defeated Sri Lanka 2-1 in a series played in the pre-header of the tournament. “We have touched all the bases,” head coach Ramesh Powar had earlier said of India’s pre-tournament preparations during the series. “The wickets have been slow, so we didn’t expect too many high-scoring matches, but the way Harmanpreet, Shafali (Verma), Jemimah (Rodrigues) and Smriti (Mandhana) have batted, we are on the right track.”
The Indian women’s cricket team is part of a 215-member contingent that the country will send to Birmingham for the Games. IOA acting president Anil Khanna called it a “gender-neutral contingent” with 108 men and 107 women participating in the traveling party. The total number of contingents stands at 322 including 72 team officials, 26 additional officials, nine contingent staff, including three general managers.

NEW DELHI, Jun 8 () — Indian women’s captain Mithali Raj retired from international cricket on Wednesday after a 23-year career in which she established herself as the country’s premier female batsman.
India Women Team Captain Mithali Raj Retires
“Like all journeys, this one must come to an end,” the 39-year-old said in a statement on social media.
Raj made her India debut as a 16-year-old in a one-day international in 1996 against Ireland and scored 68 against South Africa in a Women’s World Cup match in Christchurch in March in what turned out to be her last international outing.
Her tally of 7805 runs, which includes seven hundreds, from 232 matches makes her the leading run scorer in women’s ODIs.
She also played 12 Test matches and scored 699 runs, including a career-best 214 against England at Taunton in 2002.

“… the last 23 years have been the most fulfilling, challenging and fun years of my life,” said Raj, who led India to the World Cup finals in 2005 and 2017.
“I feel now is the perfect time to end my career as the team is in the capable hands of some very talented young players and the future of Indian cricket is bright.”
Raj was the face of women’s cricket in India and her performance inspired a biopic to be released next month. Harmanpreet Kaur Bhullar is the current captain of the Indian women’s cricket team.
