Hesson expressed his delight at the arrival of Du Plessis and also confirmed the presence of Josh Hazlewood in the bowling attack. Apart from Du Plessis, RCB also got Hazlewood (₹7.75 crore) and Dinesh Karthik (₹5.5 crore).
“We haven’t had that discussion yet. We now have three great leaders in Maxwell, Virat and Faf du Plessis, we are very happy with these three leaders, we also have Josh Hazlewood as the leader of the bowling centre. So we are happy with the team, we will decide about the leadership after the sale,” Hessen said in a press conference on Saturday.
The first day of the mega auction saw a fierce bidding war and teams shelling out big bucks for Indian talent. Ishan was picked up by Mumbai Indians for $15.25 crore while Chahar was sold to Chennai Super Kings for $14 crore.
Kolkata Knight Riders bought Iyer for Rs 12,000 and Avish Khan became the most expensive uncapped player, with Lucknow Supergiants signing him for Rs 10,000.

Talking about RCB’s performance, they are probably one of the busiest franchises. They also bought old faces – IPL 2021 Purple Cap winner Harshal Patel, who took a record 32 wickets, and Sri Lankan spinner Vanundu Hasringa, for the same price of INR 10.75 crore.

After concluding the IPL 2022 auction, RCB had three picks in Glenn Maxwell, Faf du Plessis and Dinesh Karthik. However, of the three, Faf has been the most prominent name in management, having led South Africa successfully across all three formats.

RCB is the only other team that is yet to announce its captain apart from Punjab Kings.
