Karnataka Cricket Team – After examining the decline from the 1960s to the early 2000s, let us now look at Karnataka’s other setbacks in recent times. Well, many of these losses are still fresh in our memories, and they refuse to go away.

The semi-final match was played on a foul pitch at the Reliance Stadium in Baroda. The venue was also changed a day before the fight. Shame, the match is only five times, which accounts for the quality of the pitch.

Batting first, Karnataka, led by Vinay Kumar, managed to score 107, with wicketkeeper CM Gautam scoring the highest (28). Although the visitors played well and did not let Baroda out of the game, the hosts, with captain Pinal Shah’s 83, walked away with 46 runs.

Karnataka got a chance to make amends with the bat in their second outing. But the field is a minefield, and rather than the tactics and skills of the striker, it is luck that determines the fate of their home line. Odds continue to be very low and most deliveries are unusual. It was clear that the field was not well prepared.

Barring opener Uthappa (35), no other batsman restricted the Karnataka innings to just 88, leaving the hosts with a target of just 43 runs. Obviously, there is no way a team can defend against such a small number. But the visitors fought back and took three wickets before Baroda reached home without any trouble.

Karnataka played dominant cricket throughout the season without losing a single game and reached the semi-finals as favorites to win the Ranji Trophy. But unfortunate events stopped their progress. Later, the KSCA raised concerns about the quality of the pitch and filed a complaint against the BCA with the BCCI. But nothing happened and the matter was forgotten.

Indeed, the loss was a bitter pill for the players and fans who were astute, Baroda were no match for Karnataka.

Karnataka Team To Tour Namibia

Having won back-to-back Ranji titles with Vijay Hazare in 2013-14 and 2014-15, defending champions Karnataka had a slow start to their campaign in 2015-16. They found themselves in a bad situation during the last match of the season against Maharashtra in Pune. Thanks to their bad game and low game.

Apparently, the first match will lead Vinay Kumar’s team to the tournament. But surprisingly, they fell under pressure and lost their first championship in three years. After the defeat, their 35-match unbeaten streak ended and the favorites to win the match left the match in disappointment.

But remember, they did their time in the game. Despite reducing Maharashtra to 123-8 in their first innings, they let the wickets go and allowed the opposition to score 212. Karnataka’s celebrated batting line-up then failed complete the average scores, giving the hosts a 32-run. But it’s not over for the guests. They battled with the ball, looked good on Vinay Kumar’s 4/71, and stayed in the game.

Maharashtra still managed to score 260, setting a tough target of 293 runs for the visitors. But barring Robin Uthappa (61) and CM Gautam (65*), the rest of Karnataka’s batsmen succumbed to the pressure, losing by 53 runs in the process. The fact that Maharashtra won with only three fit players in their line-up of pitches that nothing added insult to Karnataka’s woes.

Well, this is a game that Karnataka will win because of Maharashtra’s poor form throughout the season. Unfortunately, they stumble. So far, the season remains the only time Karnataka have failed to win the game since the new format was introduced in the early 2000s.

Karnataka and arch-rivals Tamil Nadu clashed in Vizag in a Ranji Trophy quarter-final clash in 2016-17. With all the guns turned on both sides, it makes for a mouth-watering prospect. It’s a shame that the game wasn’t shown on TV.

Abhinav Mukund won the toss and asked Karnataka to bat first on a pitch that offered support to the seamers. As expected, his seamers were happy and left Karnataka for 88 minutes. But Karnataka did not let Tamil Nadu run away with the game. The seam attack, led by Vinay Kumar, responded with discipline to restrict Tamil Nadu to 152, conceding 64-runs.

Karnataka will now have to fight to win enough opportunities. But only KL Rahul (77) scored as much as the other big guns fell short. 150 all out was managed by Karnataka in their second innings – setting Tamil Nadu an easy target of 87.

Later, Tamil Nadu got there with Dinesh Karthik’s blistering 41. Favorites to win the title, Karnataka, suffered a seven-wicket loss in just six overs. The defeat came as a big shock to the Karnataka fans. The team played the best football game, won five games in the league without breaking a sweat and advanced to the cup stage. But against all the odds, despite securing the services of their international star, a bad meeting ended their campaign, in the knock out.

Karnataka, after finishing all the opponents in the group stage of Ranji Trophy 2017-18 and finishing the table, defeated Mumbai in the quarter final to reach the final. They look like the best team in the tournament and are all set for their ninth title until they face champions Vidarbha.

The game against Vidarbha, held at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, turned out to be the most exciting match of the season. Batting first, Vidarbha found it difficult for Karnataka’s four-pronged seam attack and managed just 185. Mithun, along with himself (5/45), broke the deadlock for the former champions.

Karnataka responded in style with Karun Nair’s 153 and CM Gautam’s 73. They then scored 301 and ended with a first innings score of 116 runs. But Ganesh Satish, the former Karnataka player, became their undoing in the second innings. His spirited 81 took Vidarbha off the hook and pushed them to 313, setting a target of 198 for the opposition.

Ranji Trophy: Karnataka In Command Against Uttarakhand

With Mayank in the form of his life, and Karun Nair, too, among the runners, Karnataka was hoping to chase this one down without controversy. But Rajneesh Gurbani had another idea. He just watched them without giving an inch, and Karnataka performed hara-kiri in the fourth over, and they found themselves in a desperate situation of 104/7.

Captain Vinay (36) along with Shreyas Gopal (24*) undertook the repair work and brought their boat back. After Vinay’s departure, Mithun, with 33 off 26 balls, led his team to victory. But he took one too many shots and died in the ninth run. So, at the crucial moment, the last-wicket duo of Shreyas and Arvind made an incredible run out of the last high ball, setting up Arvind for the onrushing Gurbani.

As luck would have it, it only took one ball to hit the edge of Arvind’s bat which was safely placed on the pitch cordon as Karnataka lost the game by five runs in the process beautiful show. It was their first loss against Vidarbha. Gurbani, with his career-best (7/68), proved to be a thorn in Karnataka’s side. Of course, this defeat came out of nowhere and took a lot of time for Karnataka players and fans to talk about it. This was probably the most painful after losing the 2010 Ranji Trophy final.

The semi-final between Karnataka and Saurashtra, played in Bengaluru, was a controversial game, and several decisions paved the way for the use of DRS in Ranji Trophy next year. In that sense, the game can be considered as a great moment in the history of Indian domestic cricket.

Batting first, Karnataka defeated the first innings and put a respectable 275 runs on the board. Thanks to Shreyas Gopal’s 87, S.Sharath’s 83 and Skipper Manish Pandey’s 62. The hosts then came back with some bowling to end Saurashtra’s innings at 236, taking the lead by 39. Ronit More with work- it’s best (6/60) to take from the front.

It was a very good even-stevens at the end of the first innings. But Karnataka got off to a poorer start, losing more wickets in the second innings. All-rounder Shreyas again came to the rescue with 61 and put on a good partnership with Mithun (37*) to power the hosts to 239. This meant Saurashtra needed to chase down 279 to win outright. . It’s a tough ask given the quality of Karnataka’s attack.

Fortunately, their former captain Vinay, who has been off the ball all season, came into the field.
