MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings are the only team in IPL history to win two back-to-back titles when they won the trophy in 2010 and 2011. However, they missed out on the hat-trick opportunity as Kolkata Knight led by Gautam Gambhir. The runners beat them in the final of IPL 2012 to win their first title.
The inaugural edition of IPL ended with the last ball as Rajasthan Royals beat Chennai Super Kings by 3 wickets to win the title. Shane Warne-led RR were chasing 164 runs in the match, and won it in the last ball when they needed to score 1 run off the final ball.

It was another thrilling final as the Adam Gilchrist-led Deccan Chargers set a low target of just 144 runs to the Royal Challengers Bangalore, with the help of a Herschelle Gibbs half-century, but RCB could only manage 137/9 in 20 overs and by both lost by 6 runs.
MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings, playing in their second final in three years, defeated Mumbai Indians by 22 runs to win their maiden title. Suresh Raina was the star player in the final and scored an unbeaten 35-ball 57 as CSK posted 168/5 in 20 overs. The Sachin Tendulkar-led Mumbai Indians could only manage 146/9 with a 48-run knock from the Master Blaster.
MS Dhoni led his team to a second consecutive win as Chennai Super Kings defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 58 runs in the final of IPL 2011. It was a high-scoring match as CSK rode on 52. Murali’s 95-ball Vijay scored 205/5 inches. 20 overs and RCB could only manage 147/8 in their chase.
Everyone expected MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings to go for a hat-trick of titles, but Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir had other plans. The Indian opener led the Kolkata-based franchise very well in the tournament and won them their maiden crown.
