Match No 32 of Indian Premier League 2020 saw the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians. Chasing a modest target of 149 runs, defending champions MI easily won the tournament by eight wickets. Batting first, Kolkata started in a typical tone and still struggled to hold on to 120-30. Heroic performances from Pat Cummins (53* off 36 balls) and new captain Eoin Morgan (39* off 29 balls) propelled KKR to a total of 148 runs.

Quinton de Kock won the man of the match honors for his brilliant innings of 78* off 44 balls. Apart from Cummins and Morgan, Shubman added 21 runs to the team’s tally off the bat of Gill. Rahul Chahar performed well with the ball, scoring just 18 runs in his spell and picking up two crucial wickets. Jasprit Bumrah and Krunal Pandya kept Mumbai frugal.

Chasing a modest total, MI openers Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma (35 off 36 balls) started their chase brilliantly. Varun Chakraborty remained at his best in his spell scoring just 23 runs in four overs with the scalp of one wicket. Shivam Mavi managed to get a wicket for his team.
After the KKR vs MI game, Mumbai Indians are back on top of the points table. The second position is held by Delhi Capitals, followed by Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders at the 3rd and 4th positions respectively.
Orange continues to shine with KL Rahul at the helm, with a mammoth 448 runs in his bag. He is followed by his friend and teammate Mayank Agarwal who has scored 382 runs so far. Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli occupy the 3rd and 4th position. Kagiso Rabada retains the Purple Cap with 18 wickets. Rinku Singh again finished in style for Kolkata Knight Riders as they defeated Punjab Kings by five wickets on Monday to keep their IPL play-off hopes alive. Rinku ended the match not out on 10-ball-21 with a big assist from KKR captain Nitish Rana’s half-century and Andre Russell’s 180-run chase in the death overs.
Earlier, Varun Chakraborty once again led his bowling department with 3/26 as KKR produced a fine bowling performance to restrict PBKS to 179 for seven after the visitors opted to bat on a slower wicket. In reply, KKR’s batting performance was led by a brilliant effort from Rana, who promoted himself to No.3 and laid the foundation with a 38-ball 51 (6×4, 1×6).
Needing 56 off 28 balls after Rana Rahul Chahar’s second victim, Russell went ballistic against Sam Curran, smacking three sixes off four balls in the 20-over and swinging the equation in KKR’s favor needing a six in the last over.
But death with six defenses for specialist Arshdeep Singh brought it down to the wire with a four off the first four balls. With Russell running out on the last ball for more drama, a calm-headed Rinku Singh (21 not out; 10b) came to KKR’s rescue again, sealing victory with a last-ball boundary.

KKR’s win puts the fight for at least four qualification spots on hold. They are the fifth team in 10 points and lead the RR team based on their net run rate. KKR are now fifth with a net run rate of -0.079. However, they could go down depending on who wins Wednesday’s clash between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore, both with a game in hand and 10 points apiece. Third-placed Lucknow Supergiants are just one point ahead of the chasing pack with 11 points, while second-placed Chennai Super Kings are at 13th. Gujarat Titans are at the top with 16 points.
There are no changes to the top five positions in the Orange Cap table. However, Rinku Singh has now climbed to the 10th position with 337 runs in 11 matches at a strike rate of 151.12. Faf du Plessis continues to lead the way with 511 runs at a strike rate of 157.71, while the successful Jaiswal is second with 477 runs at a strike rate of 160.60.
Varun Chakraborty’s 3/26 took the Purple Cap to fifth in the table. He has taken 17 wickets in 11 matches. Gujarat Titans’ Mohammed Shami and Rashid Khan and CSK’s Tushar Deshpande top the list with 19 wickets. Based on his economy, Shami ranked first, followed by Rashid and Deshpande. Piyush Chawla is fourth with 17 wickets.
