A day earlier, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) played a minor league match in IPL 2022. On Thursday, it was a back-to-back game – but still an interesting one. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) scored a total of 421 runs to get their first ever win in the Indian Premier League, beating defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 211 runs in Brabourne gallery in Mumbai.

With contributions from Robin Uthappa (50), Moeen Ali (35) and Shivam Dube (49), CSK posted a strong score of 210/7 in 20 overs. However, LSG remained in big chase as captain KL Rahul (40) and Quinton de Kock (61) gave the team a bright start. Needing 34 from 12 deliveries, the pair of Evin Lewis (55*) and Ayush Badoni (19*) grabbed 25 runs from Shivam Dubes to take the game away from CSK.
With their first win of the season, Lucknow have moved up to sixth in the table, although their Net Run Rate (NRR) is below zero (-0.011). Ravindra Jadeja’s Chennai Super Kings, meanwhile, are languishing in eighth place with an NRR of -0.528. Rajasthan Royals, thanks to a 61-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier this week, are at the top of the table.

Two players from Lucknow Super Giants are in the top 5 of the run scoring list – Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni. Robin Uthappa, who scored a half-century in his opener for CSK against LSG, has jumped to the third spot, while RCB skipper Faf du Plessis remains on top.
There were no major changes in the Purple Cap line-up but CSK all-rounder Dwayne Bravo broke into the top-5 as he stood third with four wickets to his name. Bravo registered figures of 1/35 in four overs, breaking Lasith Malinga’s record (170) for most wickets in Indian Premier League history.
Wanindu Hasaranga remains at the top of the list thanks to his four-wicket haul against KKR on Wednesday.
