Ipl 2022: 3 Teams To Watch Out For In Group B

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday announced the team schedule and other rules related to the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, with the lucrative T20 tournament starting from March 26 and the final scheduled. May 29. Since the 15th IPL will have 10 teams, the tournament will have 70 league games and all the franchises will be divided into two groups.

“The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League will be played at a single venue protected from air traffic that threatens the spread of the COVID-19 disease, affecting the players and the League/matches,” the BCCI said in a statement.

The IPL 2022 league will be held in four venues in Mumbai and Pune. However, the Board is yet to decide on the venue where the games will be played.

Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium and DI Patil Stadium will host 20 matches each, while Braburn Stadium (CCI) and Pune’s MCA International Stadium will be allocated 15 matches each.

That is, all the teams will play four matches each at Wankhede Stadium and DI Patil Stadium and three matches at Brabourne Stadium (CCI) and MCA International Stadium.

Each team will play 14 league games (7 at home and 7 at home), which equates to 70 league games in the competition followed by four play-offs.

The teams will be divided into two groups, each team will play five teams twice, and the remaining four teams once (only two at home and only two).

Although dividing the teams would be a difficult task, the teams were divided into two groups based on the number of IPL trophies won followed by the number of finals played.

Ipl Match Schedule 2023: Ipl Match List Time Table, Venues And Groups

Based on this, Mumbai Indians have been placed alongside Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants in Group A. While, in Group B, Chennai Super Kings will have SunRisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans.

In Group A, MI will play two matches against KKR, RR, DC, LSG. MI will also play two matches against CSK and one match against other teams in Group B. Similarly, in Group B, RCB will play two matches against CSK, SRH, PBKS and GT. RCB will also play two matches against RR and one match against other teams in Group A. IPL 2022 is set to have a unique format. Unlike the previous 10 seasons, the tournament will not follow a round-robin format where teams play each other twice. Due to the addition of two new franchises, the BCCI had to bring back the 2011 format.

In IPL 2011, BCCI divided 10 IPL teams into two groups of five. The teams of one group of IPL have played twice in the league while the teams of the other group have played each other once.

Also to ensure that each team played 14 league matches in the IPL schedule, the BCCI had a rule that teams in the same qualifying round would play each other twice.

Cricket: Why IPL Continues To Rock Even After 15 Years

This year, the BCCI made the two teams based on the number of matches won and the performance of the 10 teams in the finals. Here are the IPL 2022 seeds followed by IPL teams.

Group A in IPL 2022 consists of Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants. Group B in IPL 2022 consists of Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans.

So, taking on Mumbai Indians, MI will play Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants twice. They will play against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans once.

Since CSK and MI are the top teams in their division as per IPL standings, they will play two matches. Similarly, KKR will face SRH twice, RCB and RR will fight twice, DC vs PBKS will take place twice and new franchises Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans will also go through a two-way tie.
