The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League will begin on March 31, the last day of the financial year. Defending champions Gujarat Titans, the most consistent team in IPL history, and Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Like last year, the format of IPL 2023 remains the same. A total of 74 games, including 4 Playoff games, will be played within 2 months. Although each team will play 14 group games, each team will not end up playing the other twice.
The 10 groups were randomly divided into two groups. MI, Delhi Capitals, KKR, LSG and RR are placed in Group A, while CSK, Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, RCB and SRH are placed in Group A. The teams of one team will play alone and play teams from the other team twice.
In all, IPL 2023 will see a total of 18 double headers. 16 doubleheaders are on weekends, and the other two are on Thursdays. The afternoon matches of the double header will start at 3:30 PM IST. The evening matches will be played at 7:30 PM IST as usual.
Seasonally, IPL 2023 will return to the Home and Away format as seen in 2019 and earlier. As usual, the teams play 7 home games and 7 away games. However, Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals will play some of their home matches in Dharamshala and Guwahati respectively.

IPL 2023 will begin on March 31 when defending champions Gujarat Titans host Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad as the league returns to a home-and-away format in India for the first time since 2019. The final will be held again. Ahmedabad, May 28. The IPL starts five days after the final of the Women’s Premier League on March 26, and all ten teams will be playing in the opening weekend: the Titans will host the Punjab Kings after playing against CSK on Friday. Kolkata Knight Riders in Mohali and Lucknow Super Giants play Delhi Capitals in Lucknow on Saturday (April 1); and Sunrisers Hyderabad host Rajasthan Royals in Hyderabad, while Royal Challengers Bangalore play Mumbai Indians in Bangladesh on Sunday (April 2). The teams are divided into two groups like last season. Group A has Mumbai, Knight Riders, Royals, Capitals and Super Giants while Group B has Super Kings, Royal Challengers, Titans, King and Sunrisers’. However, unlike last season, each team will play five other teams twice and the other four will play their own team once, making it 14 league games for each team. The league will have 70 games in 52 days from March 31 to May 21, covering 12 cities and featuring 18 double headers. Apart from the ten consecutive venues which include Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Mohali, some matches will be played in Guwahati (the second home of the Royal) and Dharamsala (the second home of the Kings). Royals will play their first two home games in Guwahati and the remaining five in Jaipur. On the other hand, Amakhosi will play their first five home matches in Mohali and the last two home matches in Dharamsala. In the 1000th IPL match, Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings will have a total of 18 doubleheaders in the league – one each on Saturday and Sunday. The two most successful teams in the history of IPL, Mumbai Indians and Super Kings, will meet twice on April 8 and May 6, which will be the 1000th match of IPL since its inception in 2008. The Super Kings will return to their former home ground at MA Chidambaram Stadium or Chepauk in Chennai. IPL 2019 was the last time the league was played in all the regular stadiums in India. In 2020, the competition had to be postponed from March-May to September-November and moved to the UAE due to the Covid-19 pandemic. There was an attempt to play in the Indian summer in 2021, but a breach in the bio-reliable foam led to a mid-season cut and the second half of the season resumed in the UAE in September. In 2022, the tournament was played between March and May in India, but the entire league was played in Mumbai and Pune, while the playoffs and finals were played in Kolkata and Ahmedabad. Gujarat Titans won the IPL title in their first season. last year under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, they beat Rajasthan Royals in the final in Ahmedabad.
