Almost 15 months after finishing runners-up in the T20 World Cup, the Indian women’s team will finally get their share of the USD 500,000 (approximately INR 3.5 million) prize money. learned that the BCCI on Monday asked the players to raise the invoices to get their shares. The development comes a day after British newspaper The Telegraph revealed that the team had yet to be paid their prize money despite other teams including Australia winning the award. The World Cup, which they received immediately after the end of the tournament. It is learned that the ICC handed over the prize money to the BCCI last March, almost a week after the World Cup final, which was played in front of a record 86,174 spectators at the MCG on International Women’s Day (March 8). for comment, BCCI officials said they were not aware of the reason for the delay. confirmed the delay as there was more than one player and support staff in the Indian team led by Harmanpreet Kaur. The delay has caused consternation as the BCCI is believed to have paid all other payments owed to the players since March 2020. This includes three. fee installments for their main contracts for 2019-2020, match fees and participation fees for the Women’s T20 Championship in Sharjah last November. The players are said to have recently submitted match fee invoices for the home limited-overs series against South Africa in March 2021. However, payment is still awaited. Unfortunately, the BCCI is known to have distributed the prize money awarded by the ICC. for the Indian team that finished second in the 2020 U19 Men’s World Cup, which was won by Bangladesh in South Africa last February. The Women’s T20 World Cup was held a few weeks later. According to The Telegraph, the winning Australian players received their share of the $1.6 million prize right after the tournament.
