WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — India and New Zealand will look to bounce back from disappointing Twenty20 World Cup campaigns in a white-ball series that begins with the first of three T20 internationals in Wellington on Friday.

Both national teams were defeated by Australia in the semi-finals of the cup, India by the champions of England, and New Zealand by Pakistan. Those losses ended campaigns that promised much better results.

New Zealand’s three T20 matches and three one-day international series give both teams a chance to bounce back from those disappointments immediately. With the T20 World Cup behind them, both teams will now look ahead to the 50-over World Cup in India next year as well.
New Zealand may have produced a near-perfect performance in their World Cup opener against Australia, where their heavy batting was supported by aggressive and accurate bowling. But he failed to reproduce that performance and now needs to work on consistency.

Williamson has his own problems with form. His 61 against Ireland was his most brilliant effort in what was otherwise not a World Cup. Williamson was recently sacked by Sunrisers Hyderabad, his Indian Premier League franchise for the last eight seasons.
His recent struggles with form have had a lot to do with a chronic elbow injury, which has recently affected his availability.
“The elbow is getting better,” Williamson said. – It definitely took a long time, but now I’m much better.

New Zealand went ahead naming the same line-up they used in the World Cup, with the exception of fast bowler Trent Boult. Boult walked away from his central contract with New Zealand Cricket earlier this year and head coach Gary Stead has hinted the selectors will prioritize the players they have signed.
“We’re all about Trent’s world-class ability, but at this point, as we move toward more global events, we want to provide opportunities and experiences to others,” Stead said.
India faced a bigger backlash than New Zealand for their World Cup defeat. “We know there is disappointment with the World Cup, but we are professionals and we have to deal with our successes and failures,” he said. “We have to move forward and look ahead to be better. We have to correct the mistakes we made and make sure we don’t repeat this streak.”
Pandya said there are new players in the Indian team who would bring “new energy”.
“It’s a new team, new guys with a lot of new enthusiasm, new energy, so it’s going to be pretty exciting,” he said. “The next T20 World Cup will be in two years. . . we have time ahead of us and many will have the opportunity to show what they can do.
