It is fitting that Kumar Sangakkara holds the record for most dismissals in World Cups.

Sangakkara had 54 wickets in 36 innings behind the wickets in the World Cup at an average of 1.5 dismissals per innings.
He started his World Cup career with three catches and on his debut against New Zealand in 2003, it was his biggest tournament with the gloves, finishing with a total of 17 dismissals.
15 dismissals in 2007, 14 in 2011, eight in 2015 before ending his World Cup career.
Sangakkara’s best number of dismissals in an innings is four, a feat he achieved three times; Twice in 2003 and once in 2011. He also holds the record for most stumpings in the World Cup, comfortably in the charts with 13.

The former Australian gloveman is second only to Sangakkara in dismissals in ODIs and Cricket World Cups, and while Gilchrist does not hold the record for most dismissals in the tournament, he does hold others.
His 21 dismissals in just 10 goals in Australia’s World Cup winning campaign in 2003 was a record for an edition of the tournament. He also shares the record for most dismissals in an innings (with Pakistan’s Sarfaraz Ahmed) with six catches against Namibia in 2003.
Gilchrist averaged 1,677 dismissals per innings in the World Cup, the highest among the top five wicketkeepers.
Coming in at number three is one man who could potentially add to his list in 2019: India’s wicket-keeper MS Dhoni.

Dhoni has played in three editions of the World Cup (2007, 2011, 2015), picking up 32 dismissals in 20 matches at 1.6 innings.

His last tournament was his most productive so far. In 2015, India reached the semi-finals by claiming 15 dismissals (all catches).
In 2015, Dhoni claimed his record number of dismissals in an innings with four catches against Bangladesh in Melbourne.

Sharing the third spot with MS Dhoni is former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum, who claimed 32 dismissals in the World Cup.
While Dhoni kept a wicket in all his World Cup matches, McCullum was behind 25 times in 34 matches.
His dismissal has been slightly slower than Dhoni’s (1,280 per innings) in all four editions of the World Cup (2003, 2007, 2011, 2015).
The 2007 West Indies tournament was his most prolific behind the stumps, with McCullum claiming 14 wickets in 10 innings.

No one has made more Test dismissals than Mark Boucher (555), who completes the top five wicket-keepers in the ICC Cricket World Cup.
The former South African gloveman ended his World Cup career with 31 scalps in 25 innings at an average of 1,240 dismissals per innings.
Boucher finished his World Cup debut in 1999 with 11 dismissals, his best return achieved in the 2003 edition.
His best effort at the Cricket World Cup also came in his first tournament, when he took four catches against Australia in the famous semi-final at Edgbaston.
