This includes the two Border-Gavaskar series – the longest Test cricket rivalry of the last decade or so – between Australia and India, for the first time in more than 30 years, contested over five Tests. The ICC released the FTP 2023-27 on Wednesday, in which the full 12 members played 777 international matches – 173 Tests, 281 ODIs and 323 T20Is – compared to 694 in the current cycle. Bangladesh plays the most international matches (150) in the new FTP, followed by West Indies (147), England (142), India (141), New Zealand (135), Australia (132), Sri Lanka (131), Pakistan (130), Afghanistan (123), South Africa (113), Ireland (110) and Zimbabwe (109).

The tri-series between full members will also return, with Pakistan hosting New Zealand and South Africa in an ODI tri-series in February 2025, Zimbabwe hosting New Zealand and South Africa in a T20I in July 2025 and Pakistan hosting England and Sri Lanka in -ODI tri-series in October-November 2026. There is also an extended window for the IPL, where international cricket is scheduled, from mid-March to early June every year between 2023 and 2027. England and Australia have also created windows in August and January respectively in their international schedules, to allow their senior white-ball players to participate in the Hundred and BBL. Bangladesh did the same for the BPL window in January when they did not play international cricket in this FTP. From November 2024, Pakistan will tour Australia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and New Zealand, before returning home for a tri-series in February 2025, followed by the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan which ends in March. The International Cricket Council (ICC) board supported the decision after announcing in July 2020 that the Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia, scheduled for October-November 2020, would be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been rescheduled for October-November 2022, with the last one taking place on 13 November (Sunday) 2022.
The decision to host Australia in 2022 means that the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India will take place as scheduled in the agreed window from 17 October to 14 November 2021.
The BCCI had earlier announced a bonus of Rs 5 crore to the Indian cricket team after the Ajinkya Rahane-led team won the fourth and final Test against Australia to win the series 2-1 and retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy.
India chased down 328 in the final Test to end Australia’s 32-year unbeaten run at the Gabba, Brisbane. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah tweeted within minutes of announcing the bonus.
