CASW2021: Human Trafficking Session – Hosted by EIA
The Edmonton International Airport will be hosting a presentation on September 28th at 8am PST/11am EST on MS Teams (Meeting details below).
As a part of Canadian Airports Safety Week, EIA believe it’s a great opportunity to launch another Human Trafficking Awareness Session. This program has been trained to many employees across EIA, other airports and other agencies. EIA encourages those who have not taken the session to join them and if you wish to join again we encourage that. Feel free to forward on to others working at your airport but please do not share with the public.
As a response to Human Trafficking in Alberta, the RCMP’s Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET) has partnered with the Action Coalition on Human Trafficking (ACT) Alberta to develop an ongoing training and awareness campaign at the Edmonton International Airport. All detachment members, security, and airport staff will be offered training to identify human trafficking activity and how to handle victim encounters.
This Year ICAO marks 2021 International Year of Security Culture and EIA is very excited to be able to team up with Kristin (RCMP) and Jessica (ACT) to offer Human Trafficking Awareness Session.
The key points that will be covered will be:
- Human trafficking defined
- Difference between trafficking and smuggling
- Types of human trafficking
- Why and how it happens
- General indicators
- Physical indicators
- Victimology
- Airports and human trafficking
- The role of airport staff
- Airport specific indicators
